Here we are!  Another year is done and this is my 4th “Thank you” blog that I have been extremely fortunate to get to write!

This year has been nothing short of amazing and I want to thank all our temps, applicants and dental offices who have made it so.  You continue to be the WHY behind what we do and the improvements that we are making.

I would like to start off this email with a shout out to our top rated temps!  

For Hygienists – Marissa M. in San Diego, CA and Crystal P. in Wildomar, CA tied with the most 5 star reviews!

And for Dental Assistants – Kathleen C. in La Mesa, CA worked it and was our top rated assistant!

Thank you and all our amazing temps for their hard work!  And thank you to all the offices that have left reviews for our temps.  Our heart swells with pride every time a 5 star review comes in.

Now a shout out to my team at DirectDental.  In 2023 we more than doubled the amount of users on our platform and extended our clients reach to over 1 million applicants!  

All of this while maintaining all our fantastic team members and adding Kara – our Client Success Manager.  Many of our offices have already come to know and love her and she makes a wonderful addition to our team.

I truly don’t know what I did to deserve to work with so many amazing people.  The dentists and office managers that we get to work with are so kind, warm and down to earth.  

We want to thank all of you who told your neighbors, friends and study clubs about our services.  Whenever we ask a new client how they found us, it is usually a referral from one of you and there is no greater compliment.  

Lastly, thank you for always taking such great care of our temps and applicants.  Our review system saw thousands of 4 and 5 star reviews being given to offices!  Allowing our temps and applicants to find amazing work opportunities is the reason we do what we do. Thank you for providing that to them. 

What is Coming

2024 is already set to be an amazing year!  The BIGGEST thing we have coming in 2024 is… drumroll please… AN APP! 

Yes, many of our temps have been asking for an app that allows them a better process of finding and accepting temp shifts as well as better control of their schedule. And we are on schedule to have that out to you in the first half of the year.  So be on the lookout for that. 

We are also working on methods to further extend our reach to candidates in the job market.  As we grow we get more budget to allocate to the job boards to bring in more applicants to you. 

And we plan to attend more dental shows in 2024 and we are very excited to get to meet many of you in person.  

Job Market Predictions for 2024

Oh boy… If I could tell the future I would most likely be hanging out on my yacht right now.  But alas, I can’t.  However, I do see some trends that might help with my predictions.  So here they are. 

Finding applicants to commit to a permanent position in your practice is going to continue to be difficult.  – However, I do feel more dental professionals will be coming back to dentistry to work.  As financial insecurities in the world continue, persons that may have left the field for another gig might be coming back to the operatories.   

What this means for you – don’t discriminate on resumes that show someone left the field and is trying to return.  They got the break they wanted and decided to come back (I did that).  They may be coming back to the field with fresh optimism. This also means that there may be more temps available.  Continue to build solid relationships with dental temps to keep your office staffed until you can hire permanently.  

Labor Laws are going to continue to make things tricky – Minimum Wage went up in 25 states. Many states are requiring employers to offer certain benefits. Even posting jobs have legal requirements now.  It can be tricky managing all of these.

What that means for you – The labor board is not an organization you want to get into conflict with.  Please make sure you are working with an HR professional or group who knows the ins and outs of your state’s labor laws so you stay out of trouble.
